Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours

In Stevie Wonder’s song, he pledges loyalty to an old love. In spite of mistakes, he hopes she will take him back and he assures her he’s all in.

As believers, we need never fear our Love’s rejection. Ephesians 1:13-14 NIV says, “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” We too are signed, sealed, and delivered.

Signed, sealed, and delivered. The phrase refers to a legal document: signed by the seller, sealed with a wax seal, and delivered to the new owner.

Signed: Colossians 1:13 says, “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness.” Though the enemy still wars against us, he has no formal claim. We have been bought with a price. We are no longer under his authority.

Sealed: Ephesians 1:13 says, “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.” A seal bore the owner’s unique emblem or coat of arms. It carried his authority just as a written signature does today. Unlike a wax seal, the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives is permanent.

Delivered: Ephesians 14 says, “the promised Holy Spirit . . . is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” God has taken full ownership and the Holy Spirit’s presence is proof.

I’m Yours: John 10:28-30 says, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all . . . I and the Father are one.” You are His for keeps.

So sing it out.
