Making the Impossible Possible

Impossible.

That’s how I’m feeling as I stare down Christmas.

Our son’s November wedding (which was awesome) was immediately followed by Granny’s hospital visit, a move for Granny from the retirement centre to a higher level of care, and a second move to a nursing home with a higher level of security, and a second hospital visit.

With Thanksgiving in the middle.

At my house.

December days keep ticking off, and I’m still unpacking from the California wedding—which took place weeks ago.

Christmas?

I’ve barely started.

Did I mention our two youngest children have December birthdays?

Yeah.

Not that God hasn’t been faithful. He has in a million different ways, and we have some great God stories from these weeks of craziness. But no one’s offered to postpone Christmas until I catch my breath, and right now, it looks impossible.

Here are the verses God brought to my attention.

“ ‘Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.’” (Luke 1: 36-37 NIV)

Truthfully, I’m feeling barren now too.

As I write, we’re still decorating in pumpkin orange.

No tree. No gifts.

Nothing but to-do lists.

It’s forcing me to put aside my expectations for a “normal” Christmas and ask, “God, what do You have in mind?’

He reminds me of Elizabeth. Said to be barren. Said to be cursed, in disfavour with God. But was she? Nah. God simply moved on a different timetable than her neighbours.

Could His timetable for me be different too? Because nothing is impossible with God.

Nothing.

So, what’s your impossible?

Marriage issues?

Children? Perhaps one in particular?

Work? Or lack of it?

That other kid at school?

Look at Elizabeth and remember nothing is impossible with God.

Nothing.

God, help me to trust You with my impossible. Keep my eyes glued to Your face and not on my circumstances because all things are possible with You.

Questions:

What is your impossible?

Could time be a factor?

Could He desire a shift in focus from what is not to what is? From what is missing to what is present?

Could something good be waiting in the wings?

Sexy slim babes, weak effeminate boys, and hideous get up and boogy soundtracks all swirl us up into a way-back
machine vortex of fun and feeling slightly groovy. The film
Newsies has grown into a cult phenomenon with a generation having grown up on the movie’s driving,
infectious score since its 1992 theatrical release and subsequent DVD.

Can’t think of another Smith film you could say that about.

This actually makes the beginning of the game a really unique experience, where you’ll need to make
every bullet count. Director Seth Gordon (“Horrible Bosses”) is
usually much better at handling an balance between physical comedy and intellectual comedy but it’s all down hill from the opening titles
this time around. But the Heritage Foundation just made Romney’s position that much more untenable.
