School Shopping

Have you started school shopping? New shoes. School supplies. Backpacks. Lunch boxes. A new outfit for the first day.

How do you choose your stuff?

Cool brands? Designer logos? The sale of the day?

The first day of school sends us shopping for other things too. Friends. Who will you avoid and who will you sit with? How do you choose these things?

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.”    Psalm1: 1(NIV)

The wicked. Sinners. Mockers. Who are these guys and how do we avoid them? What if the “cool” kids act this way?

Wicked: Any wicked queens or evil stepsisters in your class? Probably not, but watch and listen. Are the person’s actions and words kind or hurtful? Helpful or self-serving?

Sinners: Yes, I know we all sin, but is there a pattern of right choices vs. wrong ones? Truthfulness vs. lies? Respecting others or dissing instead?

Mockers: Do their words and tone tear down or build up?

We tend to behave like the people we’re with, so stand, sit, and walk with those who choose right over wrong, good over evil, and respect over put-downs and gossip.

By all means, reach out to everyone, but your close friends should reflect a commitment to follow God and be obedient to His ways.
