How Much More: Understanding God’s Love for You

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11 NIV

How much more! 

Can you see the look on Jesus’ face as He makes His case? 

Why do we struggle to believe Him? Or is it just me?

Does God’s love sound just too good to be true?

Can we really count on Him? For everything? All the time?

You decide. Here’s an abbreviated How Much More list:

“If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?” Matthew 6:30

“Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!” Luke 12:24

“Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!” Romans 5:9

“For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” Romans 5:10

“But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!” Romans 5:15

How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” Hebrews 9:14

How much more is God’s love for us?

Paul tells us in Ephesians 3:17-21:

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

How much more?

Immeasurably more.

Unimaginably more.

To infinity and beyond more. 

You don’t have to understand it. 

Just don’t turn it down. 

The consequences for saying no are also immeasurable. 

Questions:

Do you struggle to receive from God? Why or why not? 

If you do struggle, what is the root of your struggle? Is it worth holding on to? 

Practice gratitude this week for our how much mores. Make a gratitude jar and write down two items a day for which you are thankful. Journal your thanks. Or, pray it out.
