Holy Attire: White Linen
“Worship the LORD in holy attire.” Psalm 96:9 NASB In Scripture, holy attire meant linen. Priestly garments were made from linen. God knew what He was doing because nothing outperforms linen when it comes to strength, luster, and durability. Stain resistant, linen gets softer with each washing and handles moisture well. Linen also:
- Filters chemical exposure, noise, and dust.
- Reduces solar gamma radiation by almost half.
- Has been reported as having healing properties.
- Has no allergic reactions.
- Heightens positive emotions and has bacteriological properties.
1 Peter 2:9 says, “For you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” So, as a royal priesthood, what does our holy attire look like?
The New Testament gives us a few ideas on what to put on:
- Armor of light (Romans 13:12)
- Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:27)
- The new self created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:24)
- The armor of God (Ephesians 6)
- Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and love (Colossians 3:12, 14)
- Faith, hope, and love (1 Thessalonians 5:8)
- A gentle and quiet spirit (1 Peter 3:4)
But guess what? Linen appears in the New Testament too. Revelation 19:7-8 says, “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)”
Holy attire is still about linen, but righteous acts begin with righteous thoughts, righteous attitudes, and righteous words. Click To Tweet(And note the need for armor.) Be intentional about what you put on—and try some linen.
