The Currency of Value

My husband and I have been watching Sherlock reruns (the Benedict Cumberbatch series). In the episode following Mary Watson’s death, in which she takes a bullet meant for Sherlock, Sherlock says this, “In saving my life, she conferred a value on it. It’s a currency I do not know how to spend.”

Profound.

Two thoughts came to mind.

1) Much of my life I lived as if I had no value. Because some viewed me that way, I took their word and lived by it. Today, I live by what God says. He gave His life for mine and in doing so, conferred value on my life.

John said, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1 NIV

2) It’s a currency I do know how to spend. Though Sherlock was clueless, Scripture directs us to the commandments:

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-39

God expects me to spend every penny of that currency—for Him and for His Kingdom. He wants me to extravagantly love Him and my neighbors, holding nothing in reserve.

Boldly.

Generously.

Graciously.

As He did for me.

What will you do with your currency?

Workout of the Week: The Currency of Value

Meditation Passage: Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.’ And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-39

Do It: Spend it.
