3 Tips to Find God’s Plan in 2015

What’s your game plan? The parties are over, and the year has officially begun. Will 2015 play out on your terms or on His? How do you find God’s plan this year?

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8 NIV)

Tip 1: Ask

Ask God what He would have you do differently this year.

Ask what He desires to work in you.

Ask for guidance with the goals you are setting—or avoiding.

Ask for a verse for the year or a specific word representing something significant for 2015.

Ask.

Tip 2: Seek

Seek Him.

Spend time with Him in worship.

Take time to listen after you ask.

Journal when He answers.

And don’t forget to say thank you, because He will answer.

Seek.

Tip 3: Knock

Become a regular at heaven’s door. Knock out of respect, but remember you have the freedom to talk to Dad anytime you need to. And you will need to, because when He answers Tips 1 and 2, you’ll find His presence is necessary to follow through.

Knock.

My results for 2015 asking, seeking, and knocking?

Connection. I am to be intentional about developing relationships this year.

My verse for the year? God gave it to me January 1. Really.

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7 NIV)

Why? Because as my pen rests in my hand and I peruse this year’s goals—I quiver inside. I know He’s asking me to step out in faith. The things He’s asking me to do? Not difficult, but they require time.

And the time He is asking for, plus my to do list, add up to more than my allotted twenty-four.

So, what will give?

Sleep? Maybe short-term, but certainly not long-term.

My to do list? Will what I think is important turn out not to be?

God’s to-do list? Will I trust Him and obey? Or will I chicken out and selfishly check my list off first?

Or—could there be another option? Could He supernaturally meet me at the place of my obedience and enable me to handle both? I’ve seen Him do it before. After all, we made it through December—and after our November, I didn’t think that was possible.

Do I trust Him to do it again? This year? This week? Today? (Sounds like it’s time for Tip 3!)

So, will you join me this year? Ask Him for a verse? A challenge? A throw-down? Something that requires some spiritual yoga? Some serious stretching?

Will you challenge your family to seek Him too?

Don’t settle for another status quo year. God has great things for you. Join me, hold my hand, if you will, and let’s step out in faith, for our spirit is one of power, love, and self-discipline, not of fear.

Let’s do it.

Questions:

Has God showed you something for 2015?

Have you asked?

Do you have a verse for the year? Will you share it with us?

Are you fearful as you look ahead? Why? What’s your challenge?
